View Full Version : Sunday 4/2/06

2006-03-30, 10:14 AM
The weather looks like it's going to be beautiful. I plan on LGA because the winds are forecasted to be out of the North & Northeast all day. Anyone else going spotting?

2006-03-30, 12:47 PM
I will be out there. Don't know if I am doing JFK or LGA as of yet.

2006-03-30, 12:54 PM
Pretty sure that Phil and I are headed out on Sunday. He'll probably want to hit both JFK and LGA....I'm sure he'll reply to this as well, with more details.

It'll be my first non-frigid day out! :)

2006-03-30, 01:24 PM
Sunday's dont work for me, but have a great day.

2006-03-30, 02:25 PM
Sorry boys I won't be out spotting for most of April and if not May. Time to get the yard and boat ready for the season. So I'll be raking my front lawn on Sunday, oh joy.

Tom--want me to bring momma trude out to help you rake? haha

I will be spotting in Dallas again this weekend, I sure hope to catch an ATA L1011 like Tom was able to do!

Spring Foward this Weekend. Extra Hour of light.

Ooooooweee! I've been waiting for this weekend. :)

2006-03-30, 05:46 PM
Does that mean an extra hour of sleep? That is something to look forward to...

Probably won't be out spotting this weekend. Sunday I'll be at the Mets Pre-season Workout at Shea, although if LGA is landing 31, I may get to do some spotting from the stands!

2006-03-30, 05:51 PM
Does that mean an extra hour of sleep? That is something to look forward to...

Nah, we LOSE an hour of sleep, which sucks...but it's a true sign of spring, which is awesome. hah

Though not to be supportive of Tommy, he comes outin the brutal cold all winter, but stays home in the PEAK of the aviation photography season; April and May. lol

Well I'll be flying out of LGA on Sunday afternoon (~2PM LGA-DEN flight on a UAL 757). Would be great if someone could get my bird on t/o!

2006-03-30, 09:30 PM
I am flying in from Tampa on Saturday-Monday. I'm looking to spot/photograph w/ some people. I'm nervous about going it alone, I've already had one police encounter this week. LOL I WILL have a car.

Damn, you're back in town Nick? Better hide the women & children!

I will still find them! lol

Yep, been back two weeks freezing my ass off out here! Though the Bison and Gragbeski make it worthwhile, going to make a date to go shoot them. With a camera that is.

I am hiding my mother!

When you bringing her to NY?

Nick you must push yourself to beable to shoot in semi cloudy condition at BK, LOLOL

Nope, two very wise photogs I consulted are against clouds and the BK lot so you will never find me at neither!

2006-04-01, 11:50 PM
I'll be out Monday and maybe tuesday.

we'll see how the wx goes.

2006-04-02, 08:26 AM
since i gave myself the day off today i might just head out (GASP!!) this afternoon once i make myself useful enough around the house....

2006-04-02, 09:11 AM
Im going to LGA, they're on 4. Going to eat with the g/f first then we will be heading out...Probally be there around 1030-1100.. Later!!

2006-04-02, 09:39 PM
Here's the celebrity of the day. I really still can't believe the PSA colors are flying again, I have to hand it to U.S Airways on a job well done.

2006-04-03, 12:37 AM
Today was a good day, and great to see everyone again!!

2006-04-03, 02:13 AM
Well, seen at 5:49pm, on Sunday, April 2nd over Staten Island... hope someone got it a bit closer...

2006-04-03, 08:35 AM
We were all at Howard Beach when Wunala came in. Maybe some lucky photog was at Costco. I was on the phone with Phil when he said "Wunala is on 31R" I ended my day right there. And once again we some how missed Maxjet. The plane landed without anybody seeing it. Also on my way home I saw the Air Canada E190, Icelandair 757 with Winglets and a LOT 767 Hybrid with a Green tail.

Was a great day spotting, Good people, Good Spotting.

2006-04-03, 09:28 AM
Hey Guys,

Did you catch that PSA around 4:30pm yesterday? I've got mine that came from BOS at 3:00pm and left around 3:50pm to La Guardia.
Here is my shot:

2006-04-03, 09:30 AM
Tom looks like you were the only one to get her. We were standing on the beach at Howard Beach and I look through my view finder and I'm like "there's Wunala!" Oh well what can you do?? Oh course we missed the ever elusive MaxJet again. I think Eric is going to make it a personal quest to capture her.

2006-04-03, 09:39 AM
Nice shots everybody, I was confined to LGA as I was at work but spent some time outside on the ramp enjoying the simply "Amazing" weather and having fun shooting the PSA "RetroJet". It was actually a great day at LGA, not long after my shift started got the Pink Song and two US 319's in the new colors (would see a third later on) we now have 746, 747, and 749 in the new colors and 748 should be next for repaint between the AL and PI birds (745 and 744). The PSA bird N742PS arrived around 1700 and departed an hour later, lots of nice comments on the ground frequency, one pilot said that sure is nice but they should bring back the Piedmont Blue, I wanted so bad to jump on ground and say in about 3 and a half weeks we will ! The second biggest highlight of the day was a beautiful BBJ I had never seen at LGA before

The gang who came over from JFK for the PSA bird missed this beauty by about 20 mins. And the final highlight of the day was while I was outside as a DL 763 did a go around on 31 due to an AA 757 departing 4 !

As of last night N742PS routing's put in on the Shuttle thru Friday morning, and N745VJ should be on line around April 10th, with N744P around April 27th. I think April is going to be a fun month at LGA !

2006-04-03, 11:45 AM
Could it be that there was no Maxjet Flight Yesterday. According to the Maxjet Website "We cannot find any flights matching your criteria" for a flight from London to New York April 2nd. Is it possible that they used the Maxjet Aircraft that was allready at JFK for the departure which again according to the website it departed JFK at 6:34 which is accurate because I saw it push from the gate around that time.

There is always next Sunday, I will try for it again.

2006-04-03, 11:59 AM
Yes, they did a swap of a/c yesterday. (re: Maxjet)

2006-04-03, 02:16 PM
Great shots on the PSA!

I vote to forgo the current USairways colors and paint em all PSA!

(you know what...only the few like ourselves here give a good damn about this. The traveling public won't notice let alone understand the history...or care!)

2006-04-03, 02:18 PM
Well, seen at 5:49pm, on Sunday, April 2nd over Staten Island... hope someone got it a bit closer...

Bravo Tom!
Thats better then any of mine Wunala shots...total : zero.

2006-04-03, 02:34 PM
I got my PSA shot priority screened on Anet as the first airborne shot of it.

Pardon the shameless plug.

2006-04-03, 04:16 PM
Ugh...nice pic you got of me, Chris. I look pissed...but I was really just concentrating...very...hard. haha

Here are some of my shots from yesterday. Mostly edited on Phil's desktop...I'm sure most of you will see the improvements...well, hopefully at least. :)

I'd been looking forward to shooting at Planeview...while the new angle and (close) distance was a bit challenging at first, I began to get the hang of it.

I'm pretty much guaranteed Phil's camera whenever one of these comes around. ;)

Hah...stole this one while Phil was busy chatting with the po-lice.

Not quite the Philharmonic...but Mozart still representing.

Back to LGA...I love this one :)

And....back to JFK

This was my first catch at Costco...saw the soccer nose and thought the camera would be ripped from my poor fingers...but Phil let me finish it out. (Thanks baby)

My last shot of the day

2006-04-03, 05:28 PM
Wow, great photos, looks like I should visit LGA (and JFK) again.... Mel's NW 752 shot is my favorite.

2006-04-03, 07:24 PM
One more that I just edited....just shows how nice the light was yesterday afternoon.

2006-04-03, 07:35 PM
I'm so pissed I had to call it a day at 11am, I missed out on some crazy stuff! The Aerolineas and Air Jamaica 343s were nice to see on the radar, as was the LH Cargo MD11. Good thing PSA'll be a pseudo-regular at LGA, I still need to get my own shot.

As for Wunala, well, I'd be suicidal if you guys were at Costco, let's just put it that way... :)

Mel, those are definitely an improvement over some of your older shots. I agree with Jurgen...the Northwest 752 is fantastic! I also really like your AA 772. However, the whites in the American Eagle, El Al, and Lufthansa shots do look a little blown out, so try editing those from scratch with a little less brightness.

Looks like next Sunday will have the same weather and winds. I know I'll (want to) be out there!

2006-04-03, 07:39 PM
Oh, what the hell. Here are some shots from MacNeil Park and Planeview before I packed it in.

Oh, and of course...

2006-04-03, 08:19 PM
Nice Shots Humans,
Did anyone see the Angola Government Falcon Jet land and take off form JFK?
Saw it on Redone later....it came in around 4pm or so.

2006-04-03, 09:01 PM
Wow, a second Pink Song! N695DL!

2006-04-03, 10:06 PM
Looks like they didn't paint that second Pink Song very well! It does look pretty cool though.

2006-04-03, 10:37 PM
It's a fake, Jonesbeach. He was trying to trick us.

2006-04-03, 11:08 PM
Same reg on both planes..thats the fasted repaint I have ever seen.

2006-04-04, 07:49 AM
I feel really dumb! Now that I know, iit does look Photoshop'd, but Brian completely got me.

2006-04-04, 09:20 AM
It was a dirty trick he was trying to play on me....I'm assuming he did a "not so thorough" job to mock me :(

(jerkface) :P

2006-04-04, 12:01 PM
As I mentioned in the thread about the A-10s at Shea, I was at the stadium Sunday for the pre-season open workout and Monday for Opening Day. Sunday, LGA was using Rwy 31, so I got a couple of shots from inside the stadium:

Plain old green Song:

And this one is for you Mel:

Monday, the weather was crappy, but the baseball was good:

And of course, Mr. Met:

2006-04-04, 12:09 PM
I'm coming to terms with the fact that I'm gradually becoming the only person to have never really seen the Pink Song...

...last night at dinner, when this was mentioned...Phil's dad even shared that he had seen "some sort of pink plane" in the sky.

bahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

2006-04-04, 01:11 PM
Mel, what is your email? got a lil gift for you...

I HATE MY LIFE BTW.. You guys, I wish I could have gone out Sunday. Perfect Wx, right? AND I may have been able to get a few of us on the tarmac too.

Instead I had to bring our office staff into Javits for a meeting.

It gets worse..

So being my partner is up this week, I took Monday and TUesday off, will work Weds, then off again Thursday through Sunday but away.

Yesterday, went to JFK. OF COURSE IT SUCKED, rain, etc.! I just cant win.

2006-04-04, 01:18 PM

Except that you got Pink Song TOO. :x

2006-04-04, 02:08 PM

Great job Raph! I didn't see any bunnies though.

Hey hey thanks !

Melanie, you know that we've got the cleanest aircrafts of the world ! Look at what I've spotted yesterday :

Sometimes I feel like ashamed by our aircrafts... lol
