Yes, you read that right. But not for pax.

To compete with the AN-124, Florida-based Global HeavyLift Holdings LLC announced their intention to purchase adn convert at least 10 C-17 Globemasters for cargo operations.

umm... not to sound stupid but isn't the C-17 already in a cargo-freindly configuration?

The C-17 can't compete directly with the An-124... however, Boeing/McDonnell Douglas has tried in the past to push the BC-17X, which was a civillian version of the C-17.

This is correct, World was close to purchasing a few examples not too long ago.
