I just saw that JB 101 today was Diverted to Salt Lake City, how often do JB's trancon flight's not make it accross non-stop? it seems fairly often

Enough times that Jetblue is investing in a new winglet for the A320's. That was also the reason that Airbus installed the center fuel tank on some of the Jetblue A320's.

Jet Blue has asked Airbus for the winglets. There will be 2 aircraft retrofitted with winglets. One blended and one as you see in the photos. Whichever one proved to be the most efficient will get to retrofit our fleet.

Is the A319 capable to fly the transcon routes that B6 flies? If so, why did they go A320?

The center fuel tank and the extra weight it added negated its purpose. In order to operate these flights year round the winglets will be required. jetBlue went with the A320 because of the increased capcity over the A319.

As Tommy said, Jetblue wanted the additional seats, in the A320. Jetblue assumed that the A320 would have no problem with the coast-to-coast flights, afterall, on paper, the A320 should have no problem with the flight....
