it has been from ATL to JFK (org. to ISP but got diverted) to NAS to ATL to NAS to ISP and now back to ATL. What is this all about?

And on the last leg from ISP back to ATL, it left at almost the same time as the scheduled DL CRJ left. Is that just a coincidence?

Why would a US Dash 8 be flying from Islip to Harrisburg?

Thanks
Joe

For commercial flights, Flightaware tracks the flight number, not the actual aircraft.

DL98xx series are usually charters. In the recent history for DL9824, the only one that jumps out at me was 26Dec SLC-EUG-SAN; and then 30Dec NZY (San Diego NAS)-EUG. This is almost undoubtedly for the Oregon Ducks who played in the Holiday Bowl on the 29th against Oklahoma.

Also, 18Dec SLC-PVU-LAS-SLC, and then 23Dec SLC-LAS-PVU-SLC. PVU is Provo, UT, which is where BYU is located. BYU just happened to play in the Las Vegas Bowl against Cal on the 22nd. There's also a SBN-PVU leg back in October on the same day that BYU played at Notre Dame.
