Delta's 767-200, the Spirit of Delta, has a special history. This aircraft was donated to Delta back in the early 1980s from the company's employees and vendors. Since delivery, it has always had a special logo. It is currently wearing Delta's 75th anniversary livery.

This aircraft is slated to be retired early in 2006. I've been trying to catch it again, and finally did at TPA last weekend.

Is there anyone here in these forums who has access to the routings for The Spirit of Delta? I would really like to catch this bird in nice light one more time before she is retired. What I'd really like to know is whether this bird will be at LGA any weekend between now and the end of the month, and whether it will be at LAX on Saturday the 28th or Sunday the 29th of this month. Thanks in advance if you can help!

Josh

P.S. -- GREAT picture Steve! I love those long shadows on the rear of the fuselage.

Well a large cloud in front of the sun darkened my departure shots significantly but I got a nice bonus, she was in position for takeoff on 31, when a short stop was issued for her departure fix, so she taxied down the runway making a nice sharp turn off on the reverse high speed taxiway right in from of our tower, maybe I can salvage some of those shots.

N102DA was supposed to be retired on Dec 1st, this is my fourth time seeing her at LGA since then, I have also seen once each Ships 101, 109 and one other I think 103. It will be interesting to see how long this old girl and her sisters keep on trucking ? If anyone at DL reads this and can comment that would be great !

Delta has a 1600 departure to ATL that arrives at LGA at 1447. This one seems to get equipment subbed a lot, seen it operate as a 762 I think three times in the last few weeks including today, yesterday it was an International 763ER.

Well it's Sunday Jan 15th and the "Spirit of Delta" just made a "Beautiful" landing on 31 at LGA operating DL 458 from ATL replacing the scheduled 763. She departs back to ATL at 1600, LGA is now landing 31 and departing 4 !

Cheers

I was hoping you might post that Ron... I was driving over the Verrazano into Brooklyn, looked up and was 99% sure I saw it on the LGA approach... looked like great weather to shoot it too.... oh well....

Pretty sure I just saw N102DA depart minutes ago, but I don't see any 767s on any flight trackers out of LGA right now.

Did my eyes deceive me?

Saw something big at Echo from the M60 tonight on the way home,
thought it was an AF2 type 757 but I guess I was wrong !

The Spirit of Delta aircraft will officially retire from service on March 6th, 2006. After then, she will be stored at the Delta Airlines Heritage Museum in Atlanta. Between Feb. 21 and Mar. 3 the A/C will make a tour of eleven "Delta Stations"
