while meandering thru EWR,this lovely frigid day, just heading back to DTW after a quick overnite, I glanced at the North Cargo area, and was glad to see that the Christmas rush was in fine fettle. A lovely green/blue ArrowAir DC-10,KHA727-200F,DC-8s in DHL yellow and old ABX grey, a slew of Kalitta 747s,100s and 200s, and a good old blue/white Champion 727-200 were parked there, giving an instant sense of 1970s deja vu. This disconnect was furthered around 11am, when in short succession, a KHA 727(BOS bound),and FedEx 727, and Kalitta 747 (200 SEA bound),and, and,UPS 747-200 (SDF)all departed 4L with copious gouts of smoke, and associated, anachronistic noise. A lovely sight, all that character, and color.Hopefully I will transit NYC/NJ again soon. Cheers gents. Merry Christmas !

oh yeah,it should read 12/14 since I passed thru yesterday, and add a Gemini Cargo DC-10F to the queue. I need to start carrying a camera.

What I would love to see is a shot of the cockpit of the plane you fly. It's one of my favorite airplanes, yet I see them so infrequently these days. The last one I saw in action was a Capital Cargo bird in PHX on a hot July evening. What a takeoff!

Too bad you didn't have more time in NYC this time around. Next time!

regarding NYC ,when I know in advance I have a good EWR, or JFK layover coming up I will put the word out and try to hook up with you gents , it may be in the middle of the week, but I will put the word out anyway. It is always a blessing to fly ,and visit the old sod !
