I just looked a Boeing Web site and none of the tech data has anything about runway lengths,

The 787 will be able to land at LGA, but, if an airline will operate the 787 to LGA is another story....

Any aircraft can land at LGA. Taking off is where things get sticky. :)

If takeoff would be tricky, how did American and United manage flying DC-10s into LGA, and Eastern A300s, and TWA L-1011s back in the day?

The DC10 and L1011 were designed specifically for LGA use.

Don't they still have 767's that fly out of LGA?

I think what he was referring to was that any aircraft (B747, B777, A340, etc.) could land at LGA but the takeoff would be tricky.

I remember flying on an Eastern L1011 going to Orlando and we had to take-off opposite of everyone else because the pier end of the runway wasn't strong enough to support the full weight.

Basically It all boils down to . . It can if it wants to.

Yes, Delta brings in several a day.

On top of that, equipment subs are brought in occasionally by United, American and Air Canada.

As mentioned earlier, those planes were made for LGA. That is why they have the third engine...for extra power needed to takeoff on a 7,000 ft runway.

I assume that the technology of the 787s engines will allow it the same ability to do so as the L-1011s and DC-10s.

Phil

That's what I thought, so, if the 767 lands at LGA, so can the 787. The other good thing about the 787 is that its noise profile is a lot smaller....

Haven't paid alot of attention to the 787 specs apart from knowing it is larger percentage composite/ lower costs etc.. but I believe there will be several versions. I imagine we'll see at least one of those at LGA.

Don't forget, apart from the 767s, 727s, A300s, Tri-Stars and DC-10s, LGA also briefly hosted Convair 880s and Caravelles - though no photographic record on the net it seems.

The Caravalle at LGA doesn't suprise me as much as 880's, I still remember as a kid the EA Electra's on the shuttle
