I'm probably way off but aren't they doing this to save money? I could have sworn that I read something like that on a.net.

Maybe if Air Canada polished that silver to make it look as nice as Americans, then maybe the livery would look ok!

I read that, too. Oh how I wish that an airline did something like this just to please spotters. :)
