New to the group here, so I thought I'd hop on down to jfk. I've never driven around there, and thought I 'd check out the locations I've seen mentioned here. they had the planes doing the canarsie visual, so I drove to rockaway, then they changed it to 22. So I found the costco I've read about. not a great view, but I was just watching, not shooting. the best was driving on rockaway road/blvd/street that is on the east side of the airport, just beyond the tdzn of 22. unfortunately, no stopping point. So I went behind this house, and snapped a few pics. nothing beautiful, but it was fun. anyway, I'd love to get together for some serious plane spotting. maybe next week? I took a map from that website that is posted in this forum somewhere, but the locations seem pre-911, so I'm sure those are not accessible.

Hi Mike B. Welcome. :)

It is a shame that there are no stopping points along Rockaway Blvd near the beginning of the 22s, but I believe that some of the other local guyd have found other positions nearby that afford similar views.

Costco, to me, can be fairly boring, making for some generalyl uninteresting photography, but is the only option someitmes when runway usage is not better.

What site did you see that had pre9/11 maps? Art Brett's
http://anniebees.com/Photos/SpottingLocations.htm is a great resource for locaitons at the local area.

As for next weekend, I'm ure several of the guys will be interested. I'm up for it, but I won't know if I have work until we get closer. I'll keep you posted.

Again, welcome!

-Phil

I was out Sunday afternoon (3:30 - 5:30) over at North Woodmere park - some good views of incoming on 22. I'll try to post some shots later today, but saw several A340s - Lufthansa, Turkish, Olympic, and Royal Jordanian, and some other interesting stuff, including a plain white 747 freighter with Israeli regs. Plus the weather was beautiful

moose135,

some of us where over at the mounds at that time. For Afternoon Shooting North Woodmere Park is not the best.

See you out there.

I took a ride over there earlier - about 2:30. All I saw was a couple of kids on an ATV racing around the soccer field, and it was starting to drizzle, so I didn't stick around. I'll have to check it out another time. Yes, the sun wasn't in the best location for shooting at N Woodmere, but I was just having some fun, enjoying the afternoon. It's the first time I had taken the walkway up to the north end of the park, so it was interesting to see the views.

Exactly where are the "mounds" located?

I was out at the JFK Ramada on 5/14 shooting 13L arrivals. I was surprised at how much internationals came in...I'm so used to seeing them come in on 22L.
