Does flying from the United States to Europe in just a few hours bore you? Do you like going wherever it is the wind blows? Great news! On Thursday morning, Jonathan Trappe took off from Caribou, Maine suspended by 370 helium-filled balloons on the start of transatlantic flight to Europe.. Once in the air, Trappe is at the mercy of the winds, and plans on landing somewhere in western Europe.
The “aircraft” is registered as N878UP, and actually has a special airworthiness certificate issued by the FAA, issued back in 2009. The experimental “manned free balloon” aircraft, model “C.F. Flying Chair.” Trappe has previously crossed the English Channel and the Apls by balloon. You can track the progress of the flight below.
