7 Marines Killed in Midair Helicopter Collision

Two US Marine Corps helicopters collided over Arizona during a training mission Wednesday night, killing all seven Marines on both helicopters.

The AH-1W Super Cobra and a UH-1Y Huey choppers of the 3rd Marine Airwing at Miramar, Calif. were conducting a nighttime training exercise out of Marine Corps Air Station Yuma when they collided at around 11:00 pm local time near the Arizona-California border.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the crash.

Identities of the victims will not be revealed until their families are notified, which will take at least 24 hours.
