Air France-KLM finalized an order for 25 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners on Tuesday in a deal worth $5.7 billion at list prices.
Paris-based Air France-KLM had originally announced a preliminary agreement to buy the planes in September 2011, when the company’s board approved the purchase of 30 Boeing 787-9’s. It is not clear why the final order was reduced by five aircraft. The company also holds options to purchase 25 additional planes.

Boeing’s order book had attributed the aircraft to an unidentified customer.
The 787-9 is the larger sibling of the currently produced 787-8, carrying up to 290 passengers as far as 8,500 nautical miles. Boeing has now sold 305 787-9’s, and the total 787 order list now stands at 860 aircraft from 59 customers.
First deliveries are expected to enter service with KLM in 2016, while Air France planes will arrive later.
Air France-KLM says it has not yet decided on whether it will outfit the new jets with Rolls-Royce or GE engines.
