VivaAerobus Launches Flights Between Mexico and Chicago

Mexican low-cost airline VivaAerobus began flying between its hub in Monterrey, Mexico and Chicago’s Midway Airport this past Friday.

Chicago is the carrier’s sixth U.S. destination, adding to Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, San Antonio and Houston. The Chicago flights will operate twice a week to start, increased to three-times weekly during high season.

And don’t let the “Aerobus” in the name fool you: The airline operates an all-Boeing 737-300 fleet.

VivaAerobus is co-owned by RyanMex—an investment fund controlled by the Ryan family behind Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair—and the Mexican bus company IAMSA.

“At VivaAerobus we are making great strides in our expansion into the US market, and with this new destination we now reach six cities. These actions help us solidify our offering and commitment to our users, servicing them with the best routes and the most affordable prices in the market,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, VivaAerobus CEO.
