Around 80 kilograms (176 pounds) of illegal drugs were seized at Guadalajara’s International Airport, located in Mexico’s state of Jalisco, officials said Sunday.
Mexico’s Department of National Security said the packages contained heroine and methamphetamine, which were estimated to be worth 315 million pesos ($25.8 million).
Security inspections in the baggage area of Aeromexico’s Tijuana-bound Flight 116 discovered the packages with the help of a detection dog. The security team discovered several sacks that contained 27.8 kilograms (61.3 pounds) of heroine, 46.2 kilograms (102 pounds) of crystal meth, and over 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of methylfentanyl, which is commonly combined with heroine.
According to military personnel, the drug would have been distributed in 556 small packs of heroine, and 1,444,812 doses of crystal meth.
