Based on Boeing’s popular 737 airliner, the P-8A is a long-range, anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft meant to replace the Navy’s aging fleet of Lockheed P-3 Orion aircraft.

Sixth Boeing P-8A Poseidon Takes Flight

The fifth Boeing P-8A Poseidon made its first flight this week, the first Poseidon to fly since Boeing and the US Navy announced a new $1.6 billion contract for six of the heavily modified 737’s that are to replace the Navy’s fleet of aging Lockheed P-3 Orions.
