History
On July 26, 1928, Seattle’s first municipal airport was dedicated. Being south of the city, it is named Boeing Field because of the Boeing Airplane Company’s proximity and because Boeing’s Pacific Air Transport (later United Airlines) used it for regular airmail service. It was Seattle’s principle passenger airport until the construction of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in the 1940s.

Today Boeing Field is not served by any major passenger airlines, seeing mainly cargo aircraft and general aviation traffic.

Boeing operates a facility at the airport where 737s, built at their nearby Renton factory, are prepared for delivery after their test flights. BFI may be the only spot on earth where one can observe an Alaska Airlines 737, a RyanAir 737 and an Air India 737 all in one day.
