Xiamen Airlines plans to launch flights to JFK (Jan 2017)

According to an application of China's Xiamen Airlines before the DOT:

Xiamen Air intends to commence scheduled combination year-round service between Shenzhen and Seattle in September 2016, and between Fuzhou and New York (JFK) in January 2017.
    [...]
Scheduled nonstop year-round service between Fuzhou and New York (JFK) will commence in January 2017. Xiamen Air will initially operate three weekly flights on the Fuzhou-New York (JFK) route, increasing to daily service by June 2017. Flights will be operated with Xiamen Air’s B787-9 aircraft seating 287 passengers.

Very interesting. Xiamen doesn't currently fly to the US, nor are there any nonstops at the moment to the US from either Shenzhen or Fuzhou. It looks odd on paper to see a nonstop to JFK from a third-tier city like Fuzhou, but the Chinese population in New York has a very strong component from Fujian province, which is where Fuzhou (and Xiamen itself) are located. Of course, routes like this are why Boeing built the 787 in the first place.
