I believe the Blue Angels are having a Live News Conference at 2:55 and will be available on Twitter.

I wonder how long the Angels will stand down or they just might cancel the rest of the summer performances. Same with the Thunderbirds.
And with the Angels grounded # 5 might be sitting there awhile.
Soon after LCDR Davis’ (also #6) crash in April 2007, the Blue Angels began performing a five-jet demonstration. The squadron called back former Blue Angel, LCDR Craig Olson, to fill the opposing solo position. He began performing after practicing with the team for a few weeks. LCDR Olson had previously served with the squadron from 2003 to 2005, during which time he flew both solo positions. I imagine the same will happen now. Back in 1985 I was at the Dayton Airshow and saw the Blues put on a 5 ship demo. It was only a WEEK after both solo's collided during the show at Niagara Falls. One ejected and the other, Mike Gershon did not and was killed. So after only a week they had a pilot who not only was involved in an accident and ejected flying in a modified show. But those were different times 30 years ago.

Random question but the #5 that's sitting there, is it indeed #5? Know they had changed numbers around over the weekend. Just a random thought and not sure if anyone would know, guess you'd need ro see the serial numbers from Thursdays arrivals

FYI, I'm not sure what the Bu. No. is of the #5 jet sitting on the tarmac right now,
but the Bu. No. of the #5 jet that first landed at FRG last Thursday was #163451.

Are the Blues still in Stand Down in Tennessee or were they allowed to reposition back to Pensacola? I also read about them possibly going to a 5 jet formation but in the same article there was no timetable for their return. There next scheduled performance is next week in Syracuse!
I would also gather that the Thunderbirds are also in Stand Down. They were scheduled this weekend for Kirtland AFB, next week for the Rhode Island National Guard Open House. Their website says schedule hasnt changed but continue to monitor the website.

The Blues went back yesterday and today Fat Albert flew back to pick up Capt Kuss' body, the police gave the hearse an escort and people stood along the road in the rain.

Thanks. Yes read that about Fat Albert. Article also said his body was kept under guard at all times so he would never be alone!!
Also just left FRG and at 4PM #5 still sitting at the Terminal.

No prob Gerard, heard about the Marines too. Safe to assume that #5 is the last thing on the teams mind. Just weird feeling that it's still sitting there with everything that has gone on the last 2 days...

I have this clip of the BA Solos taking off from Thursday 5/26. It's nothing special, just hits home considering what has happened recently. #6 flew right over the camera. https://youtu.be/Mw1LLAj1gZA

So with Angel # 5 still sitting there, eventually when it does depart we'll probably get a heads-up when Fat Albert or another USN/USMC aircraft arrives!! When Albert left late Wed afternoon the pilot and rest of the maintenance/support crew had to be onboard!!

Call me nuts but if they do all come back to pick up #5 with Bert and the crew, a nice round of applause from those along the fence would be in order. Just a show of support of some sort.

Absolutely agree. If I can get enough of a heads up and get out of work I would like to be there.
