    LAX Spotting: Timing

    Hello,

Looking to spend a bit of time in front of 24R during a one-day layover. I'm not one to take pictures -- I just like to watch. So the closer the planes are when they go over, the better.

The heavies from overseas would be the primary goal. I imagine there are some timeframes that are better than others for these arrivals. Could anyone enlighten me?

    Thanks!

    Hello Plethora,

I spent time at the burger place and then further up from there at the Westchester Pkwy overpass from like, noon till maybe 5, and caught a lot of the heavies. My guess is you'd like them as close as possible, so you want to be at the park by the In and Out.

    Here's what I saw: https://www.dropshots.com/lensjet/date/2013-07-28

Enjoy your time there! I loved it

If you don't fancy the crowded innout burgers the Proud Bird Restaurant has a full menu (including a delicious club sandwich!) and the location will allow you to sit almost directly underneath 25 arrivals and watch from the patio.

Honestly I'd say it's a 50/50 mix. Locals or those more familiar feel free to chime in. You typically see more cargo heavies use the south side since most cargo facilities are on the south side. But again, it's a complete toss up.

I don't know how many times I've been camped out on the north side waiting for a heavy only to see it use the south side, and vice versus.

It sure is, so In-N-Out is going to be a poor choice for the summer. I'd head to the Proud Bird to get close, or Imperial Hill to see a lot of action, albeit from somewhat of a distance.
