United ending all service to JFK

Although United has only trans-con flights to LAX and SFO, they are ending all service to JFK as of October. They will continue to serve LGA

This is astounding to me. There are *millions* of people for whom JFK is a more convenient airport than LaGuardia (most of Brooklyn, southern Queens, South Shore, anyone who wants to take LIRR in from Long Island). Even if they move p.s. over to EWR, JFK is still viable as a spoke to ORD, IAH, and even DEN; especially since non-stops to many of the places that you'd be connecting to aren't available from LGA.

If all my connections are perfectly timed (and LIRR to NJT often isn't), it's 1.5 hours from western Nassau.

i bet they then drop the PS757s and put 3-class 767s on the EWR-LAX/SFO routes.

what i found interesting is that during a recent port authority/FAA discussion of JFK construction, the representative from united was asking questions about JFK plans that scheduled after they leave.

I'm dating myself but I remember United Viscounts, and DC-8 -43's on the Canarsie when was but a wee wane, they will be missed, boring livery or no.
The beehive hummm of the JT9D and GE CF680C2,the thunder of the JT8D-17,the rumble of the PW1830 and the high ,thin whine of the PW 545A are all music to my ears!

When did United Express cease JFK flights to IAD?

Also I wonder if United's departure from JFK will eliminate the recently added Air Canada YYZ flights...
