    ALB 3-16-15 USAF KC-10 Extender

I have been waiting to grab the KC-10 at ALB for ages. The opportunity finally presented itself today. She came in from McGuire for some touch-and-goes and practice approaches.

Nice Mark! How rare are those up there, you just haven't been able to connect with one or they just don't go up there at all

It seems that they're pretty rare. I've heard of them coming in, but never seen one in person. Then again, they don't show up on ADS-B sites or FlightAware, so it could be more often than what I see. If I had to guess, I'd say once or twice a year, at most.

We used to go up there a lot more, but for a few reasons don't drop in as much.

Tougher to drop in during the winter months too when the weather/runway conditions are less favorable for touch-and-goes. We also have other scheduling restrictions during these months which make it more valuable training wise to just come back to McGuire.

Were you shooting over the fence at the Sicker Road dead end? Snow banks are getting shorter making that harder to do!

Yep, some through the gap, and some on the snow.

My spotting days are getting fewer and farther between the older my kids get. Hopefully that pattern will turn around at some point. I did, however, have a short session while the airport was using 28 a few weeks ago. There is(was) a huge snow pile at the dead end on the south side of the runway that I had a couple of nice shots from. You have to take advantage of those opportunities when they exist!
