Yes there was something about those days. Glad I have the memories. I might add that seeing the VERY rare (I my time) the NWA DC91, B722 and the DAL B722s with the (green/red) rotating navigation lights was a very enjoyable treat not the solid gee,red we see only now. They would be solid and them seem to star to oscillate on off when the strobes came on. I try to find videos of those now but resolutions are not good enough to see them. it was very rare to see this feature and I am sure it was probably the same handful of planes I kept seeing over and over again.

Great days, and JFK is still my field of dreams, and catching the very occasional classic 747, or corporate 727 pivoting on the Canarsie approach takes me right back to the golden age .
