    Baltia 747-200, Landing Willow Run

    N706BL, Baltia airlines Boeing 747-200.
This plane has made 3 flights. The first was OSC to YIP over the summer. It was ferried over under as a Kalitta flight so it could be on display for Thunder over Michigan. Its first flight as Baltia (BTL101) was last week when it flew back to OSC from YIP. It stayed there during the week, not sure why but I would assume it was for maint.
Today (12-15-14) it flew back to YIP from OSC as BTL102.
Here are some pics I had gotten over the summer as well as the video of its landing today.

Nice shots there. I was considering driving to OSC the last time flew to Chicago to get some pix of it. But 8 hour drive was a bit much. So I guess the progress is still pushing forward. I thought they had stalled again. Kiwis and Chickens can fly but not for long. Glad you got it :)

I think me and one of my friends are going to take a short little motorcycle trip over there next spring since its not to far for us.

I am really glad I was able to catch it. I work part time out of Willow and had been wanting to catch it taking off ever since it showed up over the summer. So when I went to work the other day and it was not on our ramp anymore I was pretty bummed and figured I wouldn't see it again since they want to fly a New York to Russia route with it. So I was pretty excited when I checked Flight aware this morning to see if the plane I work on had gone out since it only has 5.9 hours before its inspections are due so I could try and plan my schedule.

Nice catch Mike. Can you post a comment on the A.net photo about the airline? It would be great for others to know more about it. It is rare!

I'm starting to think that Baltia might be a real airline!

We saw the other day Air Baltia sign on one of JFK's Cargo buildings.

This was my post about same airline about 4 months ago:

Yes this one one I need to be out there the first day. No screwing around with this classic I am sure it will be the last Classic 747 I will get to photograph in active service. That's cool you work at KYIP. I have shot there on 2 different occasions over rthe years. That place use dto be a MAJOR Airport gem. One woudl never know what they would find there. I remember a few years back someone shot the Slovak TU-1543 there.

I remember a TAROM 707 freighter there back in '99, definitely eclectic, along with the 727s, DC-9s,B-17, C47, and B25 based there.
The beehive hummm of the JT9D and GE CF680C2,the thunder of the JT8D-17,the rumble of the PW1830 and the high ,thin whine of the PW 545A are all music to my ears!

Oh WOW. Was it there for storage or operating?
I would have fainted if I saw that at YIP.
