KAFW/KDFW: Alliance Airshow/Founders Plaza Redux-10/24-26/2014

Hello All,

I am back with more winged action from here in Texas. This time I decided to make my first visit to the Alliance airshow in 2 years, and it was a much more pleasant affair not having pneumonia this time! I also had the distinct pleasure of entertaining a good friend from my time down in Sydney, so we also made it over to DFW for a little spotting. So now, photos!

Most of those DC-9s flying between Texas, Mexico, and other points in the US are carrying car parts. Between the distances of those factories into Mexico, the condition of Mexican roads, delays at the border, and just-in-time production systems, it winds up being more economical to fly high-value parts (completed transmissions, completed engine assemblies) from place to place.

x2 on that DC-9 explanation from Mateo, flights south of the boarder on older airframes are incredibly common from the airports around here (Willow Run, Pontiac) and are almost all carrying some form of parts to the assembly plants.

Thanks everybody! I always assumed they were car parts, and referred to them as such, but another spotter went off that I was making racist/generalized comments about Mexico by making that presumption... so I walked my opinions back a bit :) I really was quite excited to catch here. There were 3 DC-9s in Dallas this weekend, 1 -32F from Mexico, and an Ameristar -15F as well. I decided this C&M Bird, being their only aircraft, was a more unique catch, so I am glad it worked out.
