Strange approach yesterday at JFK (8/27)

I was spotting yesterday. KAL 249, a 74F made a very strange approach to JFK. She never overflew the CRI VOR for a 13L arrival, but flew over the Rockaways then passed over Rwy 13L and was sent to circle to make a VOR/DME 22L Approach. After finally landing, she did not move but I saw no Emergency trucks; any idea what happened? She was from ATL. The visibility was good. Arrival was 1444 EDT.

They probably just executed a missed approach and then were vectored for a 22L approach ... did you listen to tower? Perhaps they requested it or perhaps JFK was on a RWY change anyway. Sometimes tower will give a choice to the pilots if requested even if on the crossing RWY. I have seen Emirates and Singapore A380s land 31L when JFK is on a 4R/L pattern as one offs.
