A380 part falls in Nassau County

This afternoon a 12ft x 12ft piece of metal fell into the backyard of a home in Stewart Manor.

Local all and federal agencies are investigating.

Object had A380 stamped on it.

1st - it has to be a backyard...parts don't fall in front of the house...
2nd - if anything did fell in anyone's backyard - they'll take iPhone and start taking photos(or videos)...

12x12 ft. - pretty big piece of metal

A 12 inch part sounds like it was a small removable inspection panel, probably from a flight surface like wing or stabilizer. If it had been a 12 foot part it would not have gone unnoticed in the flight deck.

Newsday has a photo of the panel that has a diagram and maintenance instructions for an A380 wing landing gear on it.

If that landed in my yard, I would keep it.

I would give it back to the airline if I got a free round trip to the home city and back

Turns out it was a very thin aluminum placard that fell from an A380 wheel well. Basically a sign with maintenance info for landing gear shock strut assembly.

Its an extremely uncommon occurrence for one of these to release and fall to the ground. I get a kick out of how the lay-media makes such a big deal out of it. They were interviewing Stewart Manor residents probing for fear of more stuff falling on them. Ridiculous.

I'd feel pretty lucky if that happened.

What if it was a blue piece of ice(with brown and yellow inside) that usually don't fall in a backyard but rather makes a hole in someones roof and lands in a kitchen - next to refrigerator...

My sister lives under the flight path, two blocks over. I'm with Moose. Pretty cool item to frame.

I grew up about a mile from there, and we never had anything cool land in our yard. :-(
