    Website Critique

    Hey Guys,

As time permitted over the past few weeks I've been working on a website to share some of my work in a more professional way than flickr/photobucket. With minimal budget and an ongoing search for a "real" job my goal was to get a low cost portfolio style website out there to help with getting a few small local photo jobs to hold me over until the career comes calling. It is my hope that potential customers can use it to see my work after picking up some business cards or flyers at the marina I'll be shooting at.

Any and all feedback would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Mark

Looks like the server is down on your end.

Strange... it was working 20 minutes ago... I'll look into it

UPDATE: I was just able to access it, seems like a brief server change at Wix.

It looks like you missed the colon when typing "http://" that's why the site wasn't loading.

Anyway it looks good and I love how the site opens up with that Oasis of the Seas picture.

Here are some minor things I'd fix off the bat though:
    • Scrolling in the galleries. If I get through a gallery and want to go back to a picture in the beginning, it looks like the only way to do that is to wait and hold the mouse over the thumbnails or click through every picture.
    • The transparency of the white box. I would definitely raise the opacity if you can, the background can become distracting when viewing other photos or reading text.
    • Move the copyright disclaimer on the bottom of the page on the homepage.

    Thanks for the feedback Kenneth!

I'll look into toning down the background on the later pages. I was having issues getting it to work when I was creating the site in the first place, but I have a friend who figured it out on his site, so I've gotta ask him what he did.

Hopefully I get some time to make a few changes tomorrow!

Not too many galleries but a nice variety of subjects, nice layout, I like it. I would fix the spelling of "expariment" on your about page

    Thanks for the feedback William.

I am planning on adding a bit more variety soon, I just have a few organizational hurdles to overcome. Thanks for catching that spelling error as well! I can't believe it made it past all the times I read through it... I guess that's what I get when spell check doesn't work in the HTML editor.

These are probably outside of your control... Is there any way to drop the WIX ads? Takes away from the professional look. Too bad the gallery modal window doesn't resize to fit in the browser window. Had to scroll. Enjoyed the photographs. Especially the maritime and HDR ones. Stunning.

I could drop the Wix ads... for a fee. It's something I'm planning on doing if/when I can get enough traffic and customers to justify the expense.

I've been exploring a few methods to expand the gallery window to fit the browser window, however I haven't been successful yet.

I'm glad you like the pictures!

Thanks for looking George, I really appreciate the feedback!
