I caught parts of it – a lot of good footage from the 747 prototype testing days. I had no idea just how much the future of the airline business (and Boeing itself) was riding on the success and reliability of those engines back then. Something like 60 were total write-offs while they worked the kinks out. Some very close calls in those early days, especially when they just didn't know if it would fly or not. And it's been a great run the last 40+ years for an awesome aircraft. So sad that it now appears to be on Final Approach of it's career.

Everything changes, the quads are giving way to the twins. I have been blessed to fly the Classic, and the 400, Gods grace I will sample the -8 before it's gone, a sweet, sweet, flying machine, along with the DC3,and the 727 one of Gods gifts to pilots.
The beehive hummm of the JT9D and GE CF680C2,the thunder of the JT8D-17,the rumble of the PW1830 and the high ,thin whine of the PW 545A are all music to my ears!
