    Saudi Air Force C-130 pics

    Greetings,
I finally went down to DOV to get some shots of the Saudi Air force C-130s. it was actually a unplanned trip as my main destination was KWRI. The RSAF C-130s have been on my list to get for several years. I was holding off as I wanted to get the stretched version but I wasted way too much time waiting for something and might have ended up with neither. I was lucky to get 2 as I did not know there was one already on the ground. Shortly after I arrived under a tornado watch and torrential down pours, thunder and lightning and eventually 50kts winds the crew showed up and started loading up the plane. The Cockpit Tarp they throw over the front of the plane really ruined many of the shots before they removed it. As usual the weather was horrendous and I just missed some fantastic light 1 minute just after the 1624 arrived. I do have shots of the C-130sin the airline livery but glad to finally get the air force colors as well. An added bonus was finally getting a good shot of the recently Re-engined C-5.

Great shots of a very neat camo livery Senga. I see what you mean about the light but still a nice capture. What is the purpose of hanging a tarp over the cockpit though, to keep outsiders from looking in or something else

Thanks for the compliments Megatop. I am not totally sure myself but I would suspect either "tech security" but more a procedural check to protect the cockpit windows from being sand blasted/pitted scratched since the plane spend most of its time in desert regions. I was not satisfied with the shots until it was removed heheh.

The beehive hummm of the JT9D and GE CF680C2,the thunder of the JT8D-17,the rumble of the PW1830 and the high ,thin whine of the PW 545A are all music to my ears!

Great catch Senga getting those RSAF C-130s !!

BTW, I see DOV was the place to be on Sunday too when a RAF TriStar and 4 Eurofighter Typhoons
were stopping over there also on their way home from Red Flag.

Siigh those blasted RAF L101s in the new livery keep evading me. Not sure if I'd go nearly 3 hours to shoot an updated livery but would have been great to get. I assumed they went through PSM they they a have in past years.

I got ZD950 in the old livery but the L1011s don't show up much now.

This Saudi C-130 was at Dover AFB on November 9, 2013. Was at the AMC Museum that day for their C-5A dedication ceremony.

    Nice shot Steve,
I wish they would bring in the longer version more often. I was shocked to see the C-5 on the ramp there. The last time I was at DOV it was not there. I must say I was please to see they got one.
