JFK Pan Am Hangar 1981 Clipper Images

Here are some slides I scanned from a Pan Am Hangar tour I had while in Aviation High School, circa 1981.
It was a fantastic day as I remember- we observed maintenance ops in Hangar 19 and got to tour the 747-100 Clippers.
BTW, some of you may remember Hangar 19 from the Solar Impulse exhibit there earlier in the year.

Flight deck on N735PA Clipper Spark of the Ocean. For old school "steam gauges" it doesn't get any better than this!

Don .... What a treat it must have been. Fantastic! BTW I do recall Clipper Pacific Trader and seeing her from the rooftop parking at the PanAm Worldport parked at her gate. Thanks for sharing.

    Great Shots Don,

Must have been a great tour. Although glass cockpits are pretty impressive, theres nothing like the old guages in a cockpit - real flying

    Cheers

Ahhhh home! Thanks for the memories
The three most common expressions in aviation are, "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" and "Oh Crap".

my dream job when I was a kid was being a 747 captain for Pan Am, thanks for the memories !!!
The beehive hummm of the JT9D and GE CF680C2,the thunder of the JT8D-17,the rumble of the PW1830 and the high ,thin whine of the PW 545A are all music to my ears!

Very nice, Don! In 1981, I was in college, and working weekends and summers as a security guard down at the Pan Am hangars.

That must have been a cool job Moose. Did you take any pictures at the time?

Thanks- I'm happy with them considering I had a Canon AE1, a 50mm lens and really didn't know how to use it yet.
