How to make a photo w subject in color and background in B/W?

Hoping for a helping hand here. It's been at least 4 years since I used my photoshop CS.

I'm looking to edit a photo where I keep the airplane in the foreground completely in color but yet the background is all in black and white. Can someone please list the steps involved in order to do this? Believe it or not for the amount of photos that I do have online, I still don't know how to do this orto use layers either

I truly appreciate the help. Thank you!
And I, I took the path less traveled by
and that has made all the difference......yet...
I have a feeling a handle of people are going to be very interested in what I post in the near future.

Mario …. the stuff that Manny provided is fantastic. If google "Selective Color", you'll probably different approaches. I haven't don't selective color in many moons. Here is a sample (probably one of my first ones), that I've did a few years ago. From the looks of the image, I could have did a better job.

True, but you can also simply PAINT your mask on :) Makes for easy work of the tougher parts.

Thanks Mark... the selection was done by hand, no tools... it was HARD... Now they have tools that make this process easy by comparison...
