KAFW & KDFW-November, 2013: Life in the Fast Lane (Very Image HEAVY)

    Greetings all,

Time for yet another set from the Lone Star State. This one is my favorite bi-annual tradition, NASCAR weekend! Now I don't know much about racing, but I do love the swarm of bizjets that descend on my local airport when NASCAR comes to town, and as such, had planned to come up for the weekend since the beginning of the semester.

Like any good spotting weekend, this one starts with a great story. My goal for this trip was to catch Roush-Fenway Racing's 2nd 727, N727NK, which had eluded me for 3 years now. Imagine my horror and frustration upon seeing she would be landing at 1800 Thursday evening, 6 hours before my bus arrived. I was resigned to missing it yet again as I walked out of my exam that afternoon when I had an epiphany-I may be in Austin, my by camera gear was at the apartment in Roanoke. I had an idea. I quickly rang my father, who has been my intrepid spotting partner from Florida to Alaska and back, and asked him if, with my coaching and instruction, he would be willing to operate my gear and snag some shots for me. After 30+ minutes on the phone helping him to sort out the settings for the light I expected him to be presented with, and explaining proper shooting "technique" he headed for the airport, and I headed for class. I didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised with the results. So, making his NYC Aviation debut, with my editing assistance, and on his first spotting trip behind a camera, my not-as-bad-as-I-expected Father!

All in all, not bad for a first timer! Clearly I am an outstanding coach

Alright, now to my catch for the weekend's subsequent 3 days

    To be continued...

... picking up where we left off

Pardon the crap light, but this is one of the DOJ's 2 ATRs

Some F-16s decided to drop in too

I actually had a hard time trusting my eyes when I saw this, having never encountered a Bell 430 in person before

The next day I dashed over to DFW to catch 2 birds I had never shot before

Then snagged a Saab 2000 leaving AFW that evening

Then up at the crack of dawn to benefit from earlier sunrise due to clocks changing

The queen of the narrowbodies (in my eyes) in stellar early morning light

Missed this sharp Brasilia in April, was quite pleased to snag it now

And I will end with one of the cooler paint jobs I have ever seen on a biz jet

Thanks for checking 'em out, I hope you enjoyed!

    Nick

You got them all in one weekend, didn't you? Great shots, Nick, and nice work by your father as well.

who wants a blue sky when you can have hazy, chemical infested, yellow-tinted NJ/PA skies?

seriously sick work and I'm guessing that's a Cit V at the end....that's some seriously outstanding taste and awesome paint.
Have you ever seen a grown man naked?

Dude this is one dangerously addictive hobby and I am afraid your father might have been infected since he did a really nice job. I see him sneaking out back to the airport with your equipment soon.

Thanks all! I have had incredible luck in terms of weather and activity the few weekends I have gone up these past few months, for which I am quite grateful!
