Labor Day weekend I got to go for a flight in B-25 Miss Hap.
We were suppose to go to the statue of liberty and the world trade center as a 3 ship B-25 formation. Fate would have it that it would not work out but I will go into that more later.
It was very hot and sticky out, we were all waiting for the weather to become VFR when I was asked what airplane I wanted to be in. For me that was a no brainier and I quickly chose Miss Hap. I decided that it would be best to be in the nose and if your not familliar with the B-25, you have to snake yourself sideways thru the tunnel to the front. It is not easy nor is it any kind of fun. So we get in the airplane and we are ready to go but wait cooking in the aircraft for about 20 minutes while Scott was checking conditions in the city in his T-6. Mike Kennedy who was crewchief for the flight lets me know that we are going up. Within seconds 2 B-25's and a gaggle of fighters roared to life like a WWII Scramble. It was awesome listening to the engines pop crunch boom to life. It is remarkable to go thru the startup and the engine runup was just as enjoyable. Within a few minutes we were lined up and ready to go.
The takeoff was awesome and at 1000 feet we were in and out of the clouds. We stayed in the pattern and flew formation lead with one other b-25 (the other was down mechanical) We did 2 runs on farmingdale
Not long after our flight started, it was time to land. Hot Sweaty and in need of water, I shot video of the landing and if you have nice headphones, now is the time to use them. I love the sound of the wheels touching the runnway, sounds like seals.
