Washington DC (KDCA & KIAD) 9/8/13 - 9/13/13 (Whole Lotta Pix!)

After my NY visit, I spent the past week down in Washington for a business conference. I got over to National and Dulles a couple of times each, and this is a compilation of my shots from the week.

I got in Sunday afternoon, and after checking in, had a free little time, so I headed over to Gravelly Point Park at DCA. They were using Rwy 1, so departures were coming over the park.

On Wednesday, I was back out to DCA, this time they were landing Rwy 19, so arrivals were coming over Gravelly Point.

Thursday morning, I headed out to Dulles, which was on Rwy 19L/C/R. I stopped up on the parking deck facing Rwy 19C, and got there just in time to catch the Korean 777 arriving.

Unfortunately, after that, it was a succession of regional jets in various United Express schemes...

I did get to see a pair of Silver Airways' Saabs arrive.

Friday was a doubleheader...DCA early, and IAD late.

National was back to Rwy 1 ops today, on a sunny, cool day. Well, it was mostly Rwy 1 ops - in addition to arrivals and departures on Rwy 1, they were sequencing in some arrivals onto Rwy 33, circling from the Rwy 1 approach. Here, you can see a Delta Connection (Republic) E-170 circling for Rwy 33 while an AA MD-82 departs Rwy 1.

This came up out of the river at the park's boat ramp.

I ran back out to IAD later in the afternoon, looking to catch the international departure push. After waiting out a ton of United Express RJs, finally had a Super depart Rwy 1R...

KAC051 departing for London/Luton. They were on the ground about 90 minutes after a flight from SWF. Looking at FlightAware, they had been in the NY area this week, bouncing between JFK and SWF.

First time I've seen a 748 in person.

Very nice!! When I was at Gravelly in early August they were departing Runway 1 when I got there then switched to arriving 19 before I left so I got the best of both!

Love the DCA shots, particularly the banking approach to 19. The cloud formation in the Austrian makes for a great image
