    A Little YYZ History

My favourite aircraft type has always been the Boeing 707 - it has a look to it that I believe has never been improved upon. My first flight was on a Boeing 707, on July 13th 1969 when I flew aboard a World Airways 707 from Belfast to Toronto. Thought I might share a few 707 (and 720 shots) from Toronto in the 1970's and 80's.

Wardair was one of the first Canadian charter carriers and operated several 707's

TWA 707's were not a common sight at Toronto, although we did get 2 or 3 charters per year

Sabena were very rare at Toronto - this example is shown on pushback from the now demolished AeroQuay (Terminal 1)

Pan Am usually operated 5 or 6 charter flights per year, many over the March Break period

    Ontario Worldair operated 2 707's, C-GRYN shown and C-GRYO

Olympic operated regular scheduled flights to Toronto

Montana 707-138B, the short version, on a charter program in 1979

Maersk operated a series of Boeing 727 charters in 1980 - shown approaching gate 104 at Terminal 2

Libyan Arab on an extremely rare flight to Toronto

Caribban Airways and BWIA were regular visitors

British Midland 707's were a frequent sight in the early 80's - I once saw the carriers entire fleet of 3 707's on Terminal 1 Gates at the same time

American used to operate 707's between YYZ and JFK - now downgraded to ERJ's and CRJ's

Hope you enjoy a little bit of the past

    Cheers

    Trevor

As a fellow lover of the 707, my jaw is just on the floor. Congrats Trevor, I am speechless.

They Trevor this is awesome, I am even old enough to remember spotting from the roof of terminal one, except for me it was Canadian Airlines and see Air Transat L1011s

My favorite shot from that series was the what we would now call a retro jet American Airlines.

    HOLY MOLY.

    Amazing set.

I'm frantically trying to match up some of those locations with current coordinates, I'm guessing some of those buildings are now taxiway/runways I guess?

JFK,and EWR were 707 central in the 60's and 70's, it was my favorite jet till the advent of the 747, that lovely shape is sorely missed. Great shots !!!
The beehive hummm of the JT9D and GE CF680C2,the thunder of the JT8D-17,the rumble of the PW1830 and the high ,thin whine of the PW 545A are all music to my ears!
