    PAJN-Juneau, Alaska-07/2013

    Hey Guys,

This week marked the end of a 2 week blitz through Alaska, and in addition to some awful jet-lag, I did manage to score some photos while up north. This first set come from Juneau, the majority of which were taken at the airport in town, while a few were taken from elsewhere in the city...er...town (it's pretty small). Despite the initial difficulties, I eventually worked out some good locations to shoot at Juneau, and while the traffic is not particularly heavy or varied, the scenery does make for nice photos, nevermind the poor weather we had that week.

One thing I can say is that spotters are treated fairly nicely in Alaska, no one ever had issue with me shoving a lense up against a fence to take photos anywhere in the state, which makes some things possible that otherwise would not have been

One of the two MedEvac birds regularly running to Anchorage or the smaller settlements (Sitka, etc.)

    Nice corporate Falcon

Love the lion on the nacelle

One of the off-airport locations I scouted out, while nice, I would have needed a bit more focal length to make it really worthwhile

The single runway has a very nice backdrop, when the fog clears enough to show it

There are also numerous Heli-tour outfits located at PAJN that fly numerous times a day

First time shooting an aircraft with family onboard it, headed out to the nearby Glacier fields

Only nice thing about rain is that every so often someone would kick up some awesome spray!

There is a restaurant downtown that allows for catching one of the floatplane operators doing their thing out in the channel, up close too

The location I was staying had a nice view of incoming traffic, sadly I was never there at decent hours for photos

The co-located seaplane facility is nice, and good views can be had, although as you will later see, it pales in comparison to what can be seen in Anchorage.

Lastly, great shots can be had inside the terminal too

And the Juneau Aviation highlight, Alaska Air Cargo's sole 737-400 freighter climbing out, with some sunlight at last!

I hope you enjoyed, and stay tuned for more photos from Alaska in the coming days!

    Cheers,

    Nick

Thank you all! Juneau was probably the toughest shooting of the trip in terms of location finding and weather, but it went significantly uphill as we progressed.

Gerard, just wait a couple of days if you like floatplanes

Hot Dog! I've been waiting to see some Alaska stuff. And you start with the Juneau stuff!? Does it get any better?

Very nice stuff. I particularly like your floatplane photos and "off airport" shots of the Alaskan 73 banking for the runway. You did Juneau justice even given the less than ideal (but normal) Juneau weather. Juneau has been on my list for over 3 years now and I'm hoping to make a stop there in the coming months.

Can't wait to see more from your Alaskan journey Nick. Keep em coming!
