    Canon 200-400mm f/4 IS w/ 1.4x Tele Extender - PURE OPTICAL PORN

This lens is JUST SICK!! dpReview finally did a full comprehensive test. There are a number of posts here on the forums about it when it announced and then the eventual delay in release as well as the stratospheric price-tag.

and I must say, this is absolutely the most pornographic photography piece of gear for some time now for our kind of shooting. I am a huge lover of the Nikon 200-400mm f/4 which most of you know I have a copy of. The Canon copy is just that much better with the 1.4x built in extender and STELLAR optics... just simply the cream of the crop. I may not like the price, or the Canon ergonomics, but this lens would make me buy a 1Dx just to shoot this lens wide open at an airshow... wow!!

Definitely A fantastic, drool-worthy piece of kit. I would seriously consider renting one for a major event where I needed the reach. As for buying, as a friend of mine once said, it better have wheels and an engine for that kind of money.

I just saw it on one of the lens rental sites. For a 5 day rental, it's $350. May be worth it just for fun.

I commented on another site that it seemed way off base to charge that much more for it than what the Nikon costs. The arrogant response was 'because it's a zoom that's as sharp as a prime, see the mtf charts'. Despite this, I still think it's overpriced.
