Rare Bird Spotting on Long Island

A few shots I took of a bird not seen too often around here. She's a "Killdeer"- in the Plover family. She resides in my kid's school yard of all places. They like to nest in pebbly areas with tufts of grass. We're all hoping to see her chicks soon.

Here she is standing sentry over the eggs

Where on LI(location) have you seen, took a photo of a killdeer? Great photos...

I see killdeers all the time in a summer by where I work - Mineola.

    Here's my photos:

Juvenile killdeer(I think so), even someone told me, it's a sandpiper:

Some other birds from same location:

    I guess, it's a female Goldfinch:

    Juvenile Starling:

    Gray Catbird:

    Grackle:

    American Robin:

And..of course, those "birds" do fly at that location - when they take approach to land on 22L:

It's definitely a Sandpiper, not sure the type. Maybe a Semipalmated...

Killdeer are quite common in places you do not expect them. Case in point. They hang around FRG.
earlier this year there were 2 females, which raised 4 chicks right on Atlantic's ramp where they usually park Miami Air.
They were literally under my office window. During breaks we would watch them be very protective and stand guard of their young. Thankfully, none became engine casualties.

I didn't know they were common. The science teacher at my kid's school told everyone this is a rare sighting. What do they know?
