Great shots, I love that B&W 787! Does anybody know when the 78 will begin its regular service?

Great shots Eric! Glad the heat haze disappeared. I think end of June is when 787 service starts.

I went out there as well, I realised at the last minute that I left my SD card home and didnt get not one shot! It was nice watching that Dreamliner depart from 22R.

Where is this other 22R departure spot? Looks like somewhere in the Rockaways or cross bay given that its from the right side of the departing planes?

Yes ... The location is actually in Broad Channel. The park is right off Cross Bay Blvd and is right after the traffic light before the toll plaza. Stay in the right lane and as soon as you pass the traffic light the entrance to the park is there. You will need a lens that has reach, 100-400mm or 80-400mm and bring some bug spray too just in case. The park is a nice location for late afternoon departures once the sun crosses over.

I agree with Eric that this location should be added to the spotting guide.

Mark, I think you may have mentioned that spot to me once before. Unfortunately I don't have a lens that long so it's probably a no go for me, although I'll give it a look. I did take a few photos one day from out behind the hibachi place one night after lunch there with some friends. its tucked back behind the Bridge and Tunnel PD building. it's a little closer than the park, but the park doesn't cost you anything, so there's that. I live about five minutes from there, on the rockaway side of the bridge. Anyone know what time the 787 usually departs, or have a flight number for the departure I could look up? I'd LOVE to be home one day if it launched off of 31L. Those departures usually bank via Canarsie, then bank back either just west of me or right over my apartment.

Thanks for the input if anyone has a departure time for the 78.
