    Arizona on Vacation

Last night driving back from the Desert museum in Tuscon we took some back roads. It was getting late and the sun was going down. We came across this airport (Marana) and as we made the turn there was nothing but WWII fighter planes just sitting there waiting to be taken apart or restored. The sun was setting and I didn't have a tripod so it would have been worthless to try and snap a picture. I went and did some research and here is the google map with street view.

After we see this we pull on to the highway and we pass another airport with nothing but old planes. Pinal Airpark which is clearly visible from the highway http://goo.gl/maps/LuwI9

I chalk this up to a lost opportunity but knowing it is there may help others.

I never made it to Marana but on the way from Phoenix to Tucson I detoured over to see if I could get better views at Pinal but saw a Security booth and then a dusty road when I made a left to avoid
that and some dumb ass dog started barking at me when I got out to stretch my legs so I continued my trip to Tucson!! Did you drive around Tucson Airport? When I was "stranded" in Tucson during
Sandy i was there everyday hanging out for a few hours!! Fighter jets from the AANG doing touch and goes was almost a daily routine (probably not now due to sequester BS), the regular scheduled flights and always some visitors popping in like the P&W 747 and the Rolls Royce 747 missing an engine!! And on the south side lots of derelict aircraft sitting there by to be checked out!!
And not hassled once by PD/Security the whole time I was there(7 days)!! Great place!! Little hot in the summer (really????) but whjen I was there the weather was perfect!!
