Hong Kong Trader in day light on the 13s!?!?!? ARGHHH!!!!!!
As for my Southwest shot, here's the deal.
We were both in a racetrack holding pattern north of PBI due to storms over the field. We had very similar patterns, except their were slightly shorter than ours, so we would meet at the turn.
But on the last turn, they came SUPER close. Minimums dictate 1000 feet vertical separation, and we certainly didn't have that.
that Cathay on the Canarsie is way cool, back in '03 when I was flying 727s for le Champion, on a thundery day at Kennedy we were blessed with a holding pattern near the airport, our third that day(sigh), but our neighbor but 1000 feet below us and glistening in the sunlight was a BA Concorde forced to hold and screaming "low fuel !!!",so what does NY do? they clear us for the approach first, and the Concorde follows close behind us, it was the ILS for 31R ,we were rolling out and the tower was urging us to vacate the runway due to traffic on short final, short final? that SST was in the flare as we were turning off ,touching down, and rolling out, going around was not an option !!! i miss that jet!!!
The beehive hummm of the JT9D and GE CF680C2,the thunder of the JT8D-17,the rumble of the PW1830 and the high ,thin whine of the PW 545A are all music to my ears!
I saw cathay on approach last night on plane finder... Hoping there was someone to catch it
Probably the youngest spotter ever to walk up the face of the mounds.
