Nice catch on the Luffty Star Alliance. I'm hoping it pops into JFK one of these days.

Well done! That's a tail skid on the bottom of the AS 739. The -900 has a two position tail skid, which is hydraulicly actuated on approach.

    Nice set of shots.

I flew on the LH Star Alliance A340 from FRA to HYD a few years ago.

Quite a few different types of traffic, very nice! Moose is right on the tailskid of the 739, tailstrikes are a bigger concern with the longbody 737s.

I compared the shot of the tail to other 737 tails and saw it was obviously different, leading me to ask the group- makes sense it's a tailskid, but wouldn't they be more concerned about a tailstrike on takeoffs? This 737 was landing

I'm sure it's just tied to a standard configuration, gear down, maybe flaps extended, and it extends automatically regardless if the aircraft is taking off or landing.

Thanks Don and Kenny. I am all for being rowdy and pulling crazy motorcycle tricks. But not on public roads where you're zooming by people and cars a few feet away at 80mph. There is a whole motorcycle/ATV group that hangs out down at PHL and they tear that area up like they're in Mad friggin Max. They would get behind you as you drove down Hog Island Road and get right on your ass, popping wheelies and trying to freak people out. The police just clamped down on the ATV's a few months ago, but the crotch rocket cowboys still ride down there.

I'd rather be on a 70mph mad dash for a departure than popping wheelies at 80...
