    KBDL 3/17/13

A few hours spent at nice and sunny, yet brisk and at times windy KBDL. Not a whole lot in the way of specials, though I did get to watch a R22 shoot a missed approach so that was something different. This was my first chance to get out with my 100-400L and I was impressed.

Hard to believe that so much of the regional fleet is still in the old colors. There was also a United Express ERJ in the old livery too.

That green fence was a bit maddening. Just translucent enough to see what was going on through it, just opaque enough to totally ruin a good view.

Eagle took about a 15 minute outbound delay at the end of the runway while they burned off excess fuel. Not exactly sure why they overfilled the tanks since there was no wait for departure. They pulled off onto a short piece of taxiway.

There was a pretty hefty crosswind building on 33 by this point. AA caught a really good bounce on the landing.

JetBlue really wanted to land on 33 and started an approach, but ended up deciding to make a 360 and land on 24 instead. By this time, it was a a 20+ kt crosswind at pretty much 90 degrees to the runway making 24 a much better option.

Thanks to Steve Furst for the last minute advice on BDL ops.

Will do Steve. My wife and I are both from CT originally and our family still lives there so we are often there on the weekends. Next time it looks like I am going to have some free time up there I'll let you know.

Thanks! A lot of the early stuff was arriving and departing on Rwy 24 which had the light almost directly behind me. As the morning progressed and the wind picked up, almost everything moved over to Rwy 33 which had the light off to the side. Anything that I shot before the aircraft were directly even with me was backlit garbage (which I knew would happen). If not before, I am planning to get back up there in the fall on a day when they are using Rwy 24 do get some nice shots with some New England fall foliage in the background.
