    Best non-av photos of 2012

Let's see 'em! Your best (try to limit to 5ish) non aviation shots of 2012. Anything, as long as it isn't aviation/spotting themed is fair game - think travel, landscape, in studio, family, friends, etc Of course we love to hear any good stories that go with the shot.

    Here are mine:

A couple I've done some work with on and off this year. Super impressive.

The Up Side is Down...I noticed the sound of news choppers hovering over the neighborhood but ignored them for awhile, figuring there was just a backup on the nearby bridge to downtown and a slow news day. Curiosity got the better of me after awhile, so I grabbed the camera and went for a drive. Lo and behold several blocks down the street was this wreck. It was both pouring and snowing at the same time, a rare combo for Seattle. My understanding was no one had life threatening injuries.

Taken just after sunrise on a rainy day in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. I had arrived on the 787 the day before and hadn't adjusted at all to the time change, leaving me up since the wee hours of the morning. Around 0430 foot traffic toward a very large mosque up the street started really picking up. Since it was raining everyone had umbrellas; most were solid black. I really liked the contrast against the tiles of the hotel sidewalk and started shooting it, but the black of the umbrella was too strong. Finally, this yellow one came along after about an hour.

The firstborn of some very good friends of my wife & I, and only four days old.

Bamboo forest, Kyoto Japan. Kyoto has two big illumination events a year...one in the spring and one in the winter. I was extremely happy to be able to catch the last day of the winter Hanatouro. It was everything I hoped it would be; just phenomenally cool. Noting the large amount of DSLRs in the bamboo forests I really wanted to try to do something different.

These were all from the the Fiesta Flambeau Parade, it's Americas largest night parade. I usually go down there before the sun sets and leave just after it does then go home and watch it on TV.

It was a hot time at Pocono after Kasey Kahne hit the wall...

Two from a Thanksgiving week stopover in DC. And I can tell you that printed large on metal, they both look stunning on my wall...

When I go to the races I always try whatever I can to get infield to shoot the action. This isn't always possible (actually nearly always impossible) and I have to either shoot from the grandstands or our race teams hauler when its parked against the track's fence. Well, on this day shooting from the grandstand yielded me some shots that would never have gotten had I been shooting from the infield. Here is one of them. "Flyin" Ryan Preece leading the final race of the Whelen Modified Tour season.

I had to swap out the one I had in here with the car on its side. As much as I like the photo, I have to add this one in instead. Usually when I'm at the races my lens is focused on the action on the track. On this day I was shooting from the infield covering the race for an online webiste out of NY. Out of the corner of my eye I caught this scene and could not pass it up. There was just something very photogenic about this capture.

Drove to Misquamicut, RI a few weeks after Superstorm Sandy came through. Took a walk out to the beach and was able to get this photo

My favorite shot from shooting my former highschool's Thanksgiving day tradition rivalry football game

This guy was sitting in the front yard one day. Couldn't resist getting in his face and irritating him to get the shot.
