    Severe Weather/Tornado WATCH Saturday

So last night the weather gurus were warning of severe weather today as a cold front heads our way. But this morning, T cells not associated with that cold front formed south of Queens and blasted south to north through Brookyn and Queens. Now NYC/OEM has reported lots of damage in Breezy Point that includes cars on cars and building damage. Pictures from ABC seem to confirm a tornado touched down. These storms continue to move north now through Westchester into Connecticut!! The NWS has issuied a Tornado WATCH through 9PM as this long cold front approaches. In fact the whole Northeast is under the gun.
Wow as I type this the Weather Channel just showed dramatic video of the Breezy Point tornado!!

If you go out today be aleert and be careful!! This should make a mess of the airports also!!

I was out briefly this morning around 9:20am at the field. Was the morning front approaching but nothing severe other than pouring rain. I pass through one neighborhood and did some downed telephone and cable wires.

I suggest you keep an eye on @liweatherman's twitter feed, he pushes out great updates and seems to get along with @NYCAvaition.

It looks like the worst of the squall is up north and that the less severe stuff is down here near us, just looks like it is going to be a bunch of rain and maybe some wind...

US Open has suspended play for the evening, the USC-Syracuse game at the Meadowlands was a Half Time now being delayed and the Mets-Braves at CitiField still going on but i suspect that will be stopped soon enough!!
Storms have a history of weakening as they get into Long Island but this one looks nasty. Moving at 40MPH!!
Hang on all and Kenny thanks for that Tweet feed!!

As per that great NYCAviation Twitter: "Two tornado touchdowns now confirmed this morning, EF1 (110 mph) in Canarsie and EF0 (70 mph) in Breezy Point" ;)

Just saw a pic from JFK on Facebook...WOW!! Scary!! Football game in NJ started after an hour or so delay. At Citifield they waited until rains came down then ground crew struggled with tarp as the winds got underneath!! So far Eastern Nassau just windy and ominous skies!!

    Mark,

did you happen to catch a certain special scheme around 9:20 this morning?
It's hard to take chances but sometimes it's better if you do
