I was looking around at New Orleans today on Google Maps and in Satellite view I zoomed in to the airport (MSY) to look around. First, Google is using different imagery for really close zoom levels (basically, high altitude photos as opposed to satellite shots) and I found this

I never flew either, so I can't say much about the service. What I do know is that they were a knee-jerk reaction to the success of JetBlue, offering LCC fares and services while maintaining the same costs as their mainline parents. And that's why they failed very quickly.

I flew Song, it was enjoyable. They had TV screens at each seat and you could watch TV/movies (I think!) and play trivia with other passengers in the aircraft.

I never flew TED.

Why do they come up with such terrible names for the mainline LCC's, Song, Ted, Jazz, etc. and now Scoot in Singapore.

Continental Lite, Song, and Ted. Just proves that the airline industry keeps trying to reinvent the wheel. I mean really..."Ted" as a name? Who came up with that? I picture a bunch of twenty-something Harvard business school graduates sitting in an apartment. The conversation goes like this:

"What are we going to call this airline within an airline?"

"I don't know, but I'm hungry. What's for dinner. Bring me another beer."

"Let's order some 'za from Dominoes...how about a supreme? Here's your beer."

"Hmmm... "za" is short for "pizza". How about we call the airline "Ted", short for United. Thanks for the beer..."

Call me old and jaded, but I have a theory about airline marketing. The top ten percent of marketing schools go and design Superbowl ads. The bottom ten percent go to the airlines...
