    JFK - 8/13/2012

Since the light was sweet I decided to take out the 500mm lens and see what I can get from HoBe during the evening hours (an hour or so before sunset). For some images I used a 1.4 teleconverter to get a little extra reach. Yes....images were cropped and I used Noise Ninja to clean up the images.

American departing off 31L at 500mm, ISO 320

Egypt Air departing off 22R taken from HoBe at 500mm, ISO 320

Delta departing off 31L at 500mm, ISO 320

    Delta Connection departing off 31L at 700mm (500mm + 1.4 teleconverter), ISO 320

    Air France A340 departing off 22R taken from HoBe at 700mm (500mm + 1.4 TC), ISO 320

    Aero Mexico departing off 31L at 700mm (500mm + 1.4 TC), ISO 500

American departing off 31L at 700mm (500mm + 1.4 TC), ISO 500 - they kept the gear down for a while before retracting it.

Alitalia departing off 22R taken from HoBe at 700mm, ISO 500

ELAL departing off 22R taken from HoBe at 700mm, ISO 1000

Qantas departing off 31L at 700mm, ISO 1000

These are fantastic! I actually really enjoy shooting towards sunset, probably more than any other time. Admittedly since I get home from midtown with only half an hour to an hour and half of light depending on when I get out, I think I've just gotten used to it. Love that you can get enough reach for the 22s. Nice work! I'll try and pm you or something on a night I know I'll make it down before sunset. Maybe we can meet to get some spotting done. Congrats again. Mthese are really amazing photos.

    Thanks gentlemen!

TJK.....no problem meeting up around sunset just PM me. Shooting the 22R departures from HoBe was nice, but lots of heat was present as they headed south towards Rockaway. My next conquest is to get some sunrise shots from HoBe as they depart off 4L.

Kaz....hope you get out soon. Sunday I'll be traveling to Boston for work related stuff for the week.

    Serg....hope to see ya too

Fantastic performance on that beast! WOW! imagine the closeups of nose/landing gear/tail you can get at LGA RWY 31 arrivals from beneath the pattern.

Very nice! The 500mm seems to work pretty nicely at HoBe :-)

Manny...........definitely looking forward to taking the beast out to LGA for some shots.
My next venture is to slap the 1.7 teleconverter on the 500mm and see how it performs at HoBe.

Forget the 1.7! The 2.0 III is much better optically. Toss that sucker on and take some high altitude contrails :)

Rich.....no spotting, just passing through this Sunday on my way to Hull. Maybe on my return flight I may be able to get some terminal spotting in.
