    F-15's intercept TFR Violator

2 F-15's intercepted a Biplane that violated the Presidential TFR this afternoon. The Biplane was escorted to ISP where it was forced to land & was escorted to Suffolk PD Aviation base.

As of this time, the pilot is being questioned by personal from the Secret Service, FBI, & Suffolk County PD.
EVERYONE IS THERE TO SEE THE SHERPA!

This news is breaking all over the place in the media. Apparently they made quite a racket while flying low over L.I. Damn I missed it!!

So... as I'm not a pilot, I'm a bit curious about the personal repercussions from this kind of thing.
What will become of the pilots who were intercepted? Do they get arrested/fined/billed for the incursion? Do they have to foot the bill for those F15 pilots exercising their jets? Is the aircraft impounded (if there is such a thing)?
How about their pilot's license? Is this a violation that will cause their licenses to be suspended? Do you get "points" on an aviation license the way you can with driver's licenses?

Personally, I think what we know of the policy is ridiculous. I mean, I can understand if the president is on actual government business...but if he's playing golf, or campaigning, I think the only person paying the bill for the F-15s is the president himself. He shouldn't need a tax-payer provided mini-air force guarding him while he's playing around. If there WAS someone who would try to do something with a freaking Cessna or a biplane, a secret service agent with a stinger missile on the roof could take care of it just fine.

Regardless of who is in office, he's the President of the United States - he's always on actual government business, whether he is meeting with foreign heads of state, visiting the scene of a natural disaster, or vacationing with his family. He doesn't take time off from being President - if something happens, he doesn't say "Sorry, we're visiting Disneyland, let the Vice President deal with it..."

And he doesn't make decisions about security procedures - the US Secret Service does, and they are somewhat anal about Presidential security, for good reason.

...as for the license question. Yes, there is most likely a suspension coming, the minimum is 90 days suspended. It goes on their "permanent record" with the FAA as well.

Why they let the other guy off the hook is beyond me as he was actually closer to the President. However, this poor guy, who FAILED to complete his pre-flight briefing by not checking OR worse, ignoring, the posted NOTAM's, is SOL for the time being. As for the aircraft...that's a good question. I do not have an answer to that one.
