There was a World War II Encampment reenactment this weekend at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration. They have hosted reenactment weekends the past couple of years, and this weekend held a WWII encampment. We brought a number of operating vehicles from the American Airpower Museum, including the Sherman tank, M8 Greyhound armored car, M4 High Speed Tractor towing a 155mm Long Tom gun, as well as other vehicles and anti-aircraft guns. A number of reenactor groups and the Long Island Military Vehicle Club were also present. The reenactors set up camp in a field on the grounds, with tents (yes, a number of guys slept over) foxholes, and other camp paraphernalia. We had a European area, a Pacific area, and even Russian and Free Polish troops.

The event brought out a lot of veterans, including this gentleman, who was a Sherman tank crewman during the Battle of the Bulge.
