A Delta Air Lines jet clipped the tail of another Delta plane Friday night at Kennedy Airport in Queens, but no injuries were reported, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

A 767 aircraft was pushing back from its gate at Terminal 4 when its wingtip hit the tail section of another 767 jet, the FAA said.

"The aircraft were not in communication with air-traffic control when the incident occurred," the FAA said in a brief statement. "The incident did not impact airport operations."

An FAA spokeswoman said air traffic controllers do not have jurisdiction over the planes when they are in the ramp area. She said the agency was notified of the incident about 5:15 p.m.

The FAA said it did not have other details, including extent of the damage, flight numbers, whether any passengers were aboard and where the planes were headed.

The news tonight said the aircraft being pushed back did not have any passengers on board. The second aircraft did, and they were moved to a new aircraft for their flight - I forget where they said it was going.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Two Delta jets hit each other at John F. Kennedy Airport Friday night, prompting a Federal Aviation Administration investigation.

The Delta 767 jets hit each other at a gate at Terminal 4. The wingtip of one plane clipped the tail of another.

One plane was empty while the other was headed to Turkey with 193 passengers on board. Delta called the incident “minor” and said no one was hurt.

The flight bound for Istanbul was delayed two hours.
